Michigan corner will camp at UK this summer

Livonia (Mich.) Churchill defensive back Jamal Allen was verbally offered by Kentucky earlier this year but with the summer approaching he's planning to camp in Lexington, just to make sure everything's a full-go if that's the option he wants to choose.

The Kentucky coaches, and Steven Clinkscale in particular, seem excited about the unranked cornerback and his plans to camp.

Clinkscale brought some Michigan recruiting ties with him when he took the Kentucky job, so the offer to Allen is understood better in that context.

That Clinkscale has remained in regular contact with Allen since offering him is a testament to his interest, and probably a good sign that Allen's camp performance will be highly anticipated and scrutinized.

"I do have a summer camp planned," Allen told Cats Illustrated this week. "I'm going to Kentucky for a camp and I do plan on visiting, too. That will be in late June."

Allen clarified the above statement by saying the camp and the school visit will both be around the same time, on the same trip to Lexington. He doesn't have a full slate of other camps or visits planned, although it's possible he could line up more events in the weeks ahead.

"I stay in touch with Coach Clinkscale on a daily basis. We're building that relationship," Allen said. "He's a real nice guy. He's trustworthy. I like where we're going with this relationship."

Allen did say that he would like to visit Louisville and Mississippi State, although those dates were not set at the time of his conversation with Cats Illustrated.
